Dr. Farrukh Arif

Dr. Farrukh Arif is an Associate Professor, Postgraduate Coordinator (Civil Engineering), and Director, NED University Virtual Reality Center, at NED University of Engineering and Technology. He did his Bachelors's in Engineering Civil a Master's in Engineering Management in Construction Management from NED University of Engineering & Technology. Dr. Arif pursued his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with his thesis in the area of Infrastructure Management from Florida International University, Miami USA. Thereafter, Dr. Arif completed his Post-doc in the area of Risk Management from the School of Construction, Florida International University. Dr. Arif has been associated with NED University for more than 15 years. He has served as a research scholar and visiting faculty at Florida International University and Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkiye as well. He has regularly delivered training in Senior Management courses at the National Institute of Management as visiting instructor/faculty. Dr. Arif is the founding Director of NED University Virtual Reality Center and is also the founder of a startup called Building Energy Efficiency Simulators (BEES). Dr. Arif has successfully worked on more than twenty funded R&D projects nationally and internationally. The total funded research projects’ value is more than 1 million dollars. The funding agencies included; the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC), Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, National Research Program for Universities (NRPU), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), World Bank, FIU Eugenio Pino and Family Global Entrepreneurship Center, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), European Union, GIZ, Switch Asia, etc. Dr. Farrukh’s areas of research interests include; automation, infrastructure management, Risk Analysis and Management, Virtual Reality, Augmented reality, Building Information Modeling, legal affairs, dispute resolution in construction, intelligent transportation systems, construction cost analysis, heavy construction, application of AI in construction, green building design codes, smart construction progress monitoring Dr. Arif has more than 50 international publications including journal papers conference proceedings publications, edited proceedings, and funded research project reports. He has also been honored with 11 honors and awards nationally and internationally by HEC, IEP, ASCE, AACE, FIU, etc.
