Dr. Rana Rabnawaz Ahmed

Assistant Professor

Biography

Dr. Rana Rabnawaz Ahmed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and both his Master’s in Engineering Management and Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from NED University. He is also an HEC-approved Ph.D. supervisor and actively contributes to academic and research development in construction engineering. Dr. Ahmed’s primary research interests include sustainable construction, reverse logistics of inert construction waste, circular economy, and life-cycle assessment in the built environment. His work integrates optimization modeling, queuing theory, and lean construction principles to enhance waste management efficiency and sustainability within construction processes. He has published extensively in leading international journals, including Waste Management, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Automation in Construction. His notable publications, such as “A Queuing System for Inert Construction Waste Management on a Reverse Logistics Network” and “Multi-Layer Value Stream Assessment of Reverse Logistics Networks”, are widely cited for their innovative approaches to sustainable waste handling and resource efficiency. Beyond research, Dr. Ahmed plays an active role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in construction management, sustainability, and infrastructure systems. He also mentors graduate students in applied research focusing on sustainability integration and environmental optimization in the construction industry.
