Dr. Aslam Faqeer Muhammad
Biography
Dr. Aslam Faqeer Mohammad is an experienced civil/structural engineer and scholar with over 20 years of professional and academic experience in the design, assessment, and retrofitting of structures. With a PhD in Structural Engineering, his research spans performance-based assessment, earthquake engineering, and multi-hazard resilience. He began his career in structural design, where he worked on bridges, marine structures such as jetties, airports, and complex mixed-use buildings. He has significant experience across all stages of structural projects—from concept through to detailed design, including multidisciplinary coordination, structural health assessment, retrofitting of existing infrastructure, and design under modern seismic and code provisions. Dr. Aslam has been a faculty member at NED University, where he supervises Master’s theses and undergraduate projects, particularly in structural analysis, design, vulnerability assessment, and nonlinear finite element modeling. He has participated in international collaborations and applied research competition, contributing to vulnerability mapping, probabilistic assessment of structural performance, and development of safer, resilient infrastructure. Beyond his academic papers and technical contributions, Dr. Aslam has contributed to capacity building, especially following major events like the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the 2022 floods. He has also engaged in policy-relevant work, assisting in informing design standards, code updates (such as implementation of performance-based codes), and training for engineers. He is committed to teaching, mentoring, and leadership in engineering, striving to blend rigorous research with societal impact—ensuring that built environments are safer, more resilient, and responsive to hazards like earthquakes, floods, and other challenges posed by climate change.
