Dr. Farnaz Batool
Biography
Dr. Farnaz Batool is a distinguished academic and researcher in structural and materials engineering, currently serving as a Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials and Structural Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada, following her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering from NED University. With over two decades of academic and research experience, Dr. Batool has made significant contributions to the development of sustainable, energy-efficient, and thermally insulating construction materials. Her research expertise spans foamcrete composites, geopolymer materials, thermal insulation systems, and the conservation of historical structures. She has successfully led and collaborated on multiple national and international funded research projects, with grants exceeding Rs. 40 million from organizations such as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Sindh HEC. Her ongoing projects include pioneering work on phase change material-based plasters, geopolymers from industrial waste, and foamcrete panels for structural and thermal applications. Dr. Batool has supervised numerous Ph.D. and Master’s theses, mentoring the next generation of engineers and researchers. She has also filed a patent for the design and production of thermal blocks for insulation, reflecting her commitment to innovation and applied research.
