Biography

Starting his career as a Structural Engineer, he gained valuable experience working with renowned structural engineering firms in Karachi, Pakistan, ultimately rising to the position of Associate Partner at Mushtaq and Bilal Consulting Engineers. Transitioning into academia through lateral entry, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at NED University as an Associate Professor. Over the years, he advanced to the rank of Meritorious Professor and held key administrative roles including Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dean of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and ultimately served as Pro-Vice Chancellor of NED University until his retirement in 2014.

Throughout his academic tenure, he taught numerous courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and supervised a wide range of student research projects, including Independent Study Projects (ISPs), M.Engg theses, and Ph.D. dissertations.

He has contributed extensively to the field of structural engineering with 93 research papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. Additionally, he authored two books on earthquake engineering in Urdu. His leadership roles have included serving as the National Coordinator of FIN (Pakistan), President of the ACI Pakistan Chapter, and Head of the Cawasjee Earthquake Engineering and Research Centre.

His editorial experience spans serving as Editor of an international journal and membership on the editorial boards of at least five other international journals. He has also written five book reviews, contributed a chapter to an edited volume, and edited four conference proceedings. Beyond technical publications, he authored five books on the Quran and wrote five reviews of prominent international structural engineering texts.

Research Interest

Ferrocement, reinforced concrete behaviour and design, maintenance & monitoring of rc structures, repair & strengtening of rc structures, pre and post disaster earthquake mitigation  models, asset management, recycled aggregates, new r.c. concrete, cement and aggregate replacement materials

  • Presently serving the Alma mater as Fourth Professor Emeritus of NED University
